We also want to provide you with information that’s relevant to you and your pets, like recalls, alerts, and educational information. Thank you for choosing us as your pet’s veterinary care provider! Controlled Substance Pick Up Policy
We have recently made some changes to when clients can pick up controlled substance prescriptions. Due to regulations, controlled drug pick up times will now be between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:00PM. Please allow time at pick up for us to fill the prescription. No prescriptions will be filled until the client is in the building to pick up. This will not apply to clients who have pets in hospital or to other prescription drugs. If you have any questions regarding this policy change, feel free to contact us at 540-776-0700 and we would be happy to go over the new policy with you!
Upcoming Holiday Hours
We want to make everyone aware ahead of time about our upcoming holiday hours. In addition to the dates above, we will also be closed on Thanksgiving. We will reopen the following day to be open for Black Friday. We are always closed on the weekends. This year, we will be closing for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve to give our staff time to spend with their loved ones.
We highly encourage clients to order their pet’s food and/or medications well in advance of when you’ll need it. Between normal holiday shipping delays, Covid-19 related delays, and businesses being closed around the holidays, it could take a while to get the food and medication your pet needs. Call us at 540-776-0700 and we’ll be happy to set aside your pet’s necessary food and/or medication.
In case of emergency after hours or when we’re closed, please contact Emergency Veterinary Services of Roanoke at 540-563-8575 or Town and Country Veterinary Clinic and Emergency Animal Hospital at 540-382-5042.

Many pet owners struggle with the decision of whether to keep their cat indoors or whether to allow them to spend some of their time outside. It’s a very personal decision that can only be made by pet owners themselves, but there’s no doubt that indoor cats are exposed to fewer risks and safety hazards than outdoor cats. Outdoor cats are at risk for contracting contagious diseases and pests/parasites, as well as injuries from other cats and wild animals. They’re also at risk for being hit by a car or wandering off and getting lost or stolen. There are a lot of great reasons to keep your cat indoors but without taking steps to enrich your cat’s indoor life, then there is a chance problems can arise. An enriched environment gives cats the opportunity to create their own positive experiences in an enclosed space and the goal is to create “an environment of plenty”. Follow these 10 tips to keep your cat happy indoors!
Pet insurance is still a relatively new concept for many pet owners. There are various plans and policies available through multiple companies, so it can be overwhelming when deciding what the right company and policy is for you and your pet. Despite the initial work of choosing the ideal plan for your situation, the vast majority of our clients who carry pet insurance report that they’re very glad they have it. It’s impossible to predict when, how, or to what severity your pet will get sick or how much it will cost. Pet insurance prevents you from having to take on lasting debt or forgo veterinary care. We want your pet to be as happy and healthy as possible and believe that removing financial barriers from important pet care decisions is a key step toward this goal. Pet insurance ensures your pet will always receive the care they need and difficult decisions won’t have to be made for economic reasons. The only way your vet benefits from pet insurance is that they get to practice the highest quality medicine and focus on patient care rather than finances.
