Changes To Controlled Substance Prescriptions in Virginia

The Commonwealth of Virginia has implemented a Prescription Monitoring Program that will change the way we prescribe controlled substances. Starting July 1, 2018, we will no longer be able to dispense more than a 7 day supply of controlled medications. These medications include but are not limited to: Gabapentin, Tramadol, Buprenorphine, Valium, and Phenorbarbital.

The purpose of the new Prescription Monitoring Program is to promote safe prescribing and dispensing practices across the Commonwealth. Big Lick Vet’s doctors and staff will continue to work with our clients to obtain the medications your pet requires from a local pharmacy or from our online pharmacy. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns about your pet’s medications or changes to prescribing of controlled substances.
